Pellagra was reported to have spread, which caused panic amongst people in Alabama. At the time there was report of five deaths, three people dying and 5 cases of pellagra in Bulter County. Due to the panic the State Department of Health asked to send help. Dr. N. Mason who was the only expert in the service was already dealing with around 100 cases in Clark County. Health officers were advised to keep all cases of pellagra isolated and to keep an eye on them incase they were infectious.
