article title: says birds carry pellagra
date published: june 8, 1912
A new theory was reported on the cause of pellagra by Dr. M.L. Ravick. He theorized that the spread of the disease was due to germs carried by migrating birds. He doubted that the meal made from musty corn caused pellagra.
More than 2000 cases of pellagra were found just in Kentucky and it was believed that twice as many cases were found in states further south.
